Tired of the constant monotony of torque producing pistons? Sick of the low-end grunt and seemly endless reliability that naturally aspirated V8s and inline fours provide? Us either. All of that aside, sometimes it's fun to peer into the world of the high-revving turbocharged rotary power bliss that Mazda so stubbornly clings to with its RX series. And what better place to do that than at the largest gathering of rotary powered cars this side of the Pacific?
Seven Stock XIII presented a great opportunity for triangle heads all over the West Coast to congregate and share their passion for what seems like the only viable alternative to the conventional piston powered engine. Passion is probably an understatement in this context however, because for many of the attendee's the Rotary engine is a way of life.
Many classic rotaries showed up, including groups of RX-2s, Rotary Pickups (REPU), and even some Cosmos. The largest groups were those representing the more modern rotary interpretations, the RX8 and RX7s. RX7's ranged from FB, FC, and FD models and all carried with them very diverse tastes and style. Thirteen years of celebrating the rotary engine simply isn't enough for these diehard fans and undoubtedly it never will be. Look forward to the next Seven Stock, coming to a Mazda headquarters near you.
