2010 Spocom Show

July 14th, 2010 - Long Beach, CA

Much like Christmas, Spocom comes to California but once a year. Unlike Christmas however, only a select few are presented with gifts from the Spocom Santa. Among those select few were the members of Auto Concept, who decided to go all out this year with an extravagant display featuring their top member's rides. Pulling out the big guns is to be expected however, as Spocom draws in some of the most hardcore heavy builds this side of the Mississippi and then some. This year's show even drew in the heavy hitters on the East Coast.

Vehicles ranging from Honda Civics to Lamborghini Murcielagos were sprawled across the showroom floor at the Long Beach convention center. Among the sea of modified cars you could spot a few that stood above the crowd - some more literally than others. Sparco and Snap On managed to hoist a Mitsubishi Evolution atop four Snap On tool chests (pictured below), and much like last year, Evolutions dominated the competition with sheer numbers.

Unlike last year however, the Mitsubishi's were almost outnumbered by BMWs, many of which were equipped with the latest technology from VF Engineering. The sheer volume of BMWs on the north side of the hall was overwhelming.

Thanks to the recovering tuner industry, Spocom was able to topple their line up from previous years with even more mind-blowing cars and models packed into the convention center than ever before. Topping this year's show will be next to impossible, but something tells me that the directors over Spocom have something special in store for us.

If there's one thing you'll never run low on at an import event, it's Hondas - not to say they aren't welcome. This mean green machine has been continually evolving at every show and it's definitely progressing well.

What would Spocom be without its vendors? AEM was showing off their latest air filtration technology - a must have if you live in Los Angeles. Magnaflow brought out their Scion tC. Face that only a mother could love? You decide. On the opposite end of the convention floor, Axis Wheels had two pieces of auto erotica marked in their trademark yellow - a brand new GT-R and a Murcielago. Lastly, with one of the largest collections on the show floor was Redline Time Attack. These were all serious track cars and almost seemed out of place amongst the show queens.

After dominating the show floors the previous year, the other marquees couldn't sit idly by and let the Evos take home another show without a fight. The sheer number of Nissan VQ owners was outstanding with dozens of 350Z and 370Zs and their re-badged brethren, the G35 and G37s rivaling even the Evos.
